Me Jar #4

Me Jar #4

I usually reboot my Me Jar once I run out of a gem colour. This time, I let a few of them run out, as I really wanted to reboot it at the start of the year. So here’s my final jar for 2016.

Me Jar #4

Because I’d run out of colours, I fell out of the habit of putting the gems in at the end of the night. I’m hoping to restart that as well. I think I’m going to shift the colours up a little, as some of the things I was tracking became habit enough they were a given and don’t need a gem anymore.

Me Jar #3

Me Jar #3

I had to reboot my Me Jar again a little while ago, but I was behind on things and didn’t get to the blog post until now.

Me Jar #3

I’m actually pretty impressed, as this time I ran out of the yellow I use for getting up early. They’re one of the smallest number of gems I have, because it’s something I considered highly unlikely. I’m doing a better job at that lately, but I’ll probably keep the gem colour, because I like the yellow for mornings.

Me Jar #3: Gems

Other than that, I’m still doing a good job on the writing and exercise. I might have to shake those gems up, as they are starting to feel like a gimme. We’ll see. I’ve already started the new jar, though, so I expect I’ll keep the current colour scheme for one more, at least. All the same, I’d like to keep this as something of a challenge, as that’s where part of the motivation comes in. If it becomes too easy, I tend to forget to put the gems in the jar, which means the system isn’t working anymore.

Zombies, Run! Beginner 10K Training

Zombies, Run! Beginner 10K Training

At the start of March, I began one of the new training programs included in Zombies, Run! The Beginner 10K training is for people who have completed 5K and want to increase their stamina and distance. I had been working my way back to 5K, but wasn’t quite there yet. Still, I knew I could make it, and since the program started a little less than 5K, I decided to go for it anyway. These are my thoughts on the program.

Pros

Incorporated Into the Main App

This was important to me. I’ve done the Zombies, Run! 5K training, but it’s all in a stand alone app, even though the story connects. That means to use it again (which I’ve considered, since I never did pull off a full 5K run while doing it), I have to give up earning materials and supplies for my base, and I have to let myself fall behind in the story. Not such a big concern when I’m all caught up, but at the time I was looking at this, I was a little behind.

I also don’t know if the mission screen listing for the workout expected that day was there the whole time, but that was helpful, in place of hte missing audio cues. (See “Cons” ;P)

Me Jar #2

Me Jar #2

I posted about my first “Me Jar” in November, right after I’d run out of gems in one of the categories. I started the new one as soon as I’d reset the gems, and I’ve now filled that one as well.

Me Jar #2

After trying to sort the very similar looking gems the last time, I changed up the colours. It went much fast this time. It looks like I’ve made progress on some of them and stayed about the same on others (the ones I was already doing well at), though I decided last time I didn’t want to actually count emoticon

Me Jar #2 Gem Count

No picture of my cat helping this time, though of course she did. She took the unusual tactic of trying to catch the gems by coming at them from under the towel, though. It did not work as well as she clearly thought it would.

Me Jar #1

Me Jar #1

Some months ago, I began to find myself unmotivated. I was still using Habitica (and still do), but I was high enough level that getting through what I need in a day didn’t seem to make much of a difference. To help get me through that, I decided some tracking method in the real world would be useful. So I put together my “Me Jar”.

MeJar1-1

Each colour of glass gem is a different task I needed to accomplish in a day: writing, exercise, chores, getting up and going to bed on time, and so on. I kept the jar going until I ran out of one of the colours.

MeJar1-2

It worked well, so I’ve rebooted it, with slightly different gem colours. When I was counting, these ones were a little hard to tell apart 🙂

Update and New Program

Update and New Program

Once again, I stopped updating! This is a pattern I expect to repeat forever.

Anyway, I kept walking and completed Season Three of Zombies, Run! After that, I kept going with my replay of Season, Two, but I also started wanting to run again. I didn’t want to try running Zto5K at the same time as the regular game, but I thought I might be able to get away with running Cto5K at the same time, and tried that.

I wasn’t entirely successful. Zombies, Run! tended to crash, but I don’t know if that was the app, or that I had other things running. I discovered my pedometer app seemed to interfere with the distance tracking, so I deleted it. I(‘m interested in getting one of the new FitBits when the model I want is released, so I’ll let that take over.

Anyway, while sussing out which app was causing the problems, I left Zombies, Run! off, but I’m going to try turning it back on and see if things work better now. If so, I’ll still be able to collect materials for my buildings. If not, well, I guess I’ll get myself running and then try again.

In the meantime, here’s the remainder of my Season Three runs. The rest of them are a somewhat piecemeal mess, so I’m just going to leave them unlinked this time.

Yet again, I fell out of posting things, but I kept walking. I’m almost caught up to the currently released episodes, so I’ll probably try to do the race missions next. I might be able to get a 10K in, but I still have one of the 20K missions to do, and I won’t be able to do that in one go.

I kept forgetting my headphones this week, which unfortunately cut down on the number of missions I was able to complete. I still walked, but I couldn’t earn any materials or make it farther in the story. I haz a sad.

On the more positive side, I made my first weight loss goal, which was getting back to my lowest point. Anything I lose from here on out is new territory, yay!

Zombies, Run! S3:M4 – S3:M8

Zombies, Run! S3:M4 – S3:M8

I’ve been doing rather well with the longer distances, but I’ve hit a bump. Mainly the rather large blister I got on my inside heel on Friday. I’ve walked a little since then, and I think yesterday it was making it worse. By the end of today’s it had started to feel a bit better, though, so I don’t know what’s up with that. Hopefully that’ll mean I can get back to my longer walks on Tuesday.
