Animethon, the Edmonton Anime Convention runs August 8, 9, and 10 at MacEwan City Centre.
Animethon is an annual festival focusing on the popular culture of anime (Japanese Animation) held yearly in the city of Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. This year, Animethon will be take place August 8-10, 2008 at the Grant MacEwan College City Centre Campus in downtown Edmonton. This is Animethon’s fifteenth consecutive year, ranking it among the oldest annual anime conventions in North America. Last year, we sold approximately 3633 passes and had about another 500-600 take us up on the free anime offer.
For those unfamilar with Animethon, there is much, much more than just watching anime videos for free. Admission grants access to a variety of anime-themed contests such as a costume competition and karaoke to name a few. There are also video game tournaments, a dance, improv comedy and more. It’s also a great place to meet friends or find that collector’s item in the exihibition hall.

How improbable does a cataclysm have to be to warrant proceeding with an experiment?
There’s a conversation in the Lost Room that I like. I’ll probably edit this to have the exact quote when I get home, but it ends something like this:
Joe: But what if you’re wrong?
Karl: Well, everyone will be dead so it doesn’t matter.
I don’t know much about the LHC, so I can’t comment on its ability to destroy the world. But trying to figure out where the line is on a risk with that potential is something that intrigues me.
