I would say fictional, but well executed ^_^
Yeah, I went to the whathappenedtopiedmont.com blog site and was really teetering on the edge of OMG-hood when I watched the clip with the reporter in it. And recognized the actor. Then all I had to do was check his IMDB page and check what upcoming movie he’s playing a character with that name in. I will not spoiler further, but I made it easy to follow my tracks if you wish.
It is a very well-executed promotion-hoax, down to, I believe, 99% of the commenters on said blog. They just fit with the reality they’re putting forward too well NOT to be fakes.
You know, it occurs to me (as a person who totally believes that, sooner or later, something like this WILL happen, be it zombies, aliens, a reality rift or a biological outbreak of some sort) that these sort of promotion hoaxes, while completely awesome and REALLY going a long way to sell the concept of these movies… will just be one more thing that renders us totally unready when it finally does go down. We’ll all be like “What movie is this for?” as the zombies eat our faces.
Damn, I thought this was an Internet based thing. Finding out it’s for a movie decreases my enjoyment of it somewhat.
Huh, I was going to look up the character name again to try and follow your tracks (since I didn’t recognise the actor), but the site’s giving me an error. Darn
Yeah, I wanted it to be real too, in a way. >.> The way that really likes scary movies.
Anyway, http://www.whathappenedinpiedmont.com/ is behaving for me, anyway… the character name for the news-man links to a one page site for him. I just looked up the TV show I recognized him from, then clicked his name in the cast list and looked for “Jack Nash” in the filmography.
Now I need to go pick up a copy of the book, because the site’s darn scary
